Steven is an Associate Professor in the Department of Dance at the University of Oregon, Eugene (USA), where he is Director of Graduate Studies and Coordinator of the graduate Dance Science Program. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Dance Medicine & Science; he serve as Guest Editor for a special issue on Eating Behavior, Reproductive Health, and Osteoporosis in 1998. Steven toured and danced internationally for a decade before entering the professoriate full-time in 1986 and earning his PhD in 1989. His research interests range from choreography to somatics and motor control in dance. He acts as producer for outreach performance groups including the University of Oregon Repertory Dance Company and supervises student teachers in dance in the public schools. In 2000 he spearheaded design and approval of a new Master of Fine Arts degree in Dance at the University of Oregon. His published work appears in the Journal of Dance Medicine & Science, Dance Research Journal, Impulse, and Kinesiology and Medicine for Dance. During the past 20 years he has received various awards supporting and recognizing his efforts in choreography and touring, curriculum development, and scientific research in dance.

Dr. Weiss is an orthopaedic surgeon in private practice in New York City (USA), specializing in performing arts medicine. He is Orthopaedist to Mark Morris Dance Group, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Parsons Dance Company, Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, Ballet Hispanico, Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre, Monty Python’s Spamalot at the Shubert Theatre, Grease at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, and Shrek The Musical at the Broadway Theatre. Dr. Weiss staffs a weekly performing arts medicine clinic on-site at the Juilliard School. In all of these capacities, he works closely with physical therapists, athletic trainers, and acupuncturists who specialize in performing arts medicine.  Dr. Weiss has been a member of IADMS since its establishment, and served on the Board of Directors from 1996 to 2005. Dr. Weiss has served as IADMS Acting Treasurer (2001), Vice-President (1999-2001), President (2001-2003), and Past President (2003-2005).  In 2002 Dr. Weiss hosted the 12th Annual Meeting of IADMS in New York.  He is Deputy Editor of the Journal of Dance Medicine & Science and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Dance Research Foundation, publisher of Ballet Review.  He has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Performing Arts Medicine Association.  Dr. Weiss is a member of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at NYU Langone Medical Center and is Associate Director of the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries of the NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases.  He is Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at New York University School of Medicine.  Dr. Weiss received his MD degree from Yale University School of Medicine in 1981.
