Student Researcher Support

The IADMS Research Committee administers two award programs to support the presentation of student research at the IADMS Annual Meeting.  These awards are made possible by the generous support of the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries of the NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases, NYU Langone Medical Center (New York, NY, USA) and by donations from conference registrants.

Student Research Award
This award provides a $500 (US) stipend to a student or recent graduate who has conducted especially promising research in dance medicine and science that is chosen for presentation at the 20th Annual Meeting of IADMS in Birmingham, UK. The Student Research Award recipient also receives one complimentary registration for the conference.

Student Researcher Travel Grants
These grants provide $250 (US) stipends to students or recent graduates whose research is chosen for presentation at the 20th Annual Meeting of IADMS in Birmingham, UK.  Student Travel Grant recipients each receive one complimentary registration for the conference.  The number of travel grants awarded each year depends on the funding available and the quality of the papers submitted.

Qualifications
For either award, the student researcher must be the primary investigator and the primary presenter.  In addition, the research must have been conducted within one year prior to the submission date and while the student was enrolled in a degree-seeking course of study.

Application
To apply for either award, you must submit a presentation proposal in accordance with the IADMS Call for Presentations before March 1, 2010 and indicate that you wish to be considered for a student award by checking the appropriate box in the on-line submission form.

If your study is selected for presentation at the IADMS Annual Meeting, you will be invited to submit an 4-page, double-spaced summary of your study for review by June 5, 2010. You may submit only one presentation for award consideration but may apply for both types of support by submitting a single application.  The awards are competitive and student researchers may receive only one award.

IADMS does not currently offer funding for the execution of research.  Questions about the student research awards should be emailed to the IADMS Research Committee (research@iadms.org) with 'Student Awards' on the subject line of your message.
